Serra

The Serra design brief was centered on bringing and adapting the Portland based cannabis brand to Los Angeles. The brand is established in its home city through its highly designed, high end dispensaries. The Los Angeles location offered the opportunity of expanding on the name, Serra, which means greenhouse in Italian and bringing in the light. The client purchased a car garage which was stripped to the studs and repurposed. Capitalizing on natural light and the exterior of the building to bring in landscaping was key. We designed an exterior mesh trellis that wraps the façade of the building and worked with Terremoto Landscape to wrap the building in vines and greenery. The interior is meant to say jewelry store rather than dispensary. We maintained the restrained material palette of the Portland locations (cement tile floors, white oak, Carrara marble and brass) and added a white oak tambor detail to all cabinetry and turned up things a notch elevating design details on all the casework and fixtures. The store is laid out like a mini specialty store with areas for topicals, edibles, vapes, clothing and accessories with a central racetrack shaped “flower bar” showcasing the brand’s extensive strain offerings. The result is light, airy and luxurious, yet casual…like Los Angeles.
