COMMUNE FOR EXQUISITE SURFACES
Commune’s third collaboration with Exquisite Surfaces.
08.30.2018

Introducing Commune’s third collaboration with Exquisite Surfaces, made up of 8” square cement tiles in 3 new designs: Circle Drop, Mochi, and Bean. Circle Drop and Mochi are graphic, bold, and play with the negative space used as the tile repeats. Bean is a more traditional design that is reimagined in a moody palette. CIRCLE DROP
Looking at Brazilian graphics from the 50’s and 60’s, Commune has interpreted simple circular and tear drop shapes into a variety of different pattern constructions. These tiles explore the limitless options when playing with positive and negative space. The tiles can be sold separately; all circles, all drops, or a combination of both. Available in Black, White, Ivory, Pink and Olive.
MOCHI
Mochi was inspired by the graphic shapes found in the work of abstract minimalist artists. Playing with hand drawn curves and undefined simple shapes, Commune focused on creating a tile that doesn’t fit perfectly within its 8” square. The relationship and pattern happens when the tile repeats, and the tiles can be laid out in a variety of bold combinations. Available in Indigo and Pink.
BEAN
Bean is inspired by both Japanese crests and the ceramic tiles often found in Spanish Revival homes throughout Los Angeles. Commune created a tonal, moody palette to depict these coffee bean-palm like shapes. Available in Grey, Terracotta, and Plum.
